Banned from AFPAC, Kicked out of RNC
Last week I added another event to the list of conservative conferences I have been ejected from: the Republican National Convention (thank you to all of the paid subscribers who made the journey possible — and the Twitter follower who let me crash at their house!).
On Thursday, The Intercept ran my article about Nick Fuentes’ AFPAC IV in Detroit (please please go read it thank you). The story includes a bit about Republicans for National Renewal’s executive director Mark Ivanyo, a Texas RNC delegate and VIP guest at AFPAC. Ivanyo had told me he was no longer attending the RNC when I reached out for comment, but I happened to run into him before publication in Milwaukee. Sadly, he would not even look at me!
As it turns out, RNC was a real bummer for the city of Milwaukee. The vast majority of service workers I talked to had very few positive things to say — even those who worked private parties and were therefore guaranteed a tip as part of the reservation fee and spend. Tips were low (or nonexistent!). Bars outside of the perimeter (off campus, as I called it) were dead, and the perimeter itself made moving between places absolute hell on earth.
I did get to see longtime friend of the blog Matt Schlapp before I was kicked out. Schlapp, as you might recall, owes me $100 for kicking me out of CPAC earlier this year. I had the opportunity to ask him about his failing business and skyrocketing insurance premiums, which Texas Tribune reporter Robert Downen partially caught on camera for me:
A few hours after the Intercept article was out, I was removed from the event.
This is mostly to push you all to The Intercept (go read it!), but thankfully I was able to material I can use in the future in Milwaukee. There is a lot to dissect about the future and death of the GOP.
Follow me on Twitter, TikTok, Bluesky, Threads, or Instagram. All of my news posts are unlocked, but subscriptions or tips/coffee are always appreciated — the trip to the RNC was paid for through your donations!
