From Edgelord Shitposter to GOP Official

Shane Trejo's inflammatory content didn't stop him from winning his position

Last week, I published a piece on New York Young Republican Club President Gavin Wax and his ties to extremism. Wax was Editor-in-Chief of a conservatarian blog called Liberty Conservative, which platformed James Allsup, Shane Trejo, and Alex Witoslawski.

There isn’t much I can say right now, but because I knew Shane undercover (and because he is the chairman for Michigan’s 11th District Republican Committee) I thought I would share a bit more of his, uh, journalism.

In an August 2020 episode of his podcast, Trejo brought up the baseless QAnon conspiracy. “Generally, I have been a critic of the QAnon movement, specifically the ‘trust the plan’ part of that. The actual QAnon researchers, they do a very good job. They actually their finger on the pulse of what’s going on. Anyone who laughs off pedophiles cults at the highest realms of power at this point, after Jeffrey Epstein and his suicide, and Ghislaine Maxwell…anyone who laughs off pedo-cults in the government at this point, is probably a pedophile themselves. Or just someone who is extremely low IQ, extremely brainwashed, probably never had a worthwhile thought in their pathetic lives.”

Later in that same episode, Trejo bragged about a rally in Michigan “where the patriots actually stormed into the [Michigan state] Capitol while the legislature was still in session, and gave all the lawmakers hell.”

Trejo also wrote for various blogs outside of Liberty Conservative (currently, he writes for Big League Politics).

In one February 2018 blog post, Trejo wrote shared his thoughts on Augusto Pinochet. “Look at former Chilean President Augusto Pinochet as an example of how an autocrat can quickly and brutally solve the Leftist problem…the simple, obvious fact to any objective observer is that Pinochet saved his country from Communist tyranny and mass murder, and Chile remains one of the most prosperous, stable countries in the region due to his efforts.” 

In June 2018, nearly a year after Unite the Right, Trejo wrote on Gab, “Heroic reporter and activist James Allsup is the victim of this week's ‘Two Minutes Hate’ from the digital lynch mob and could really use our help.”

The following month, Trejo declared “the LGBT agenda is beyond Satanic and is clearly just a ruse to sexualize kids and normalize child abuse.”
